TCU sold 5,500 from its alottment through the university to the 1998 Sun Bowl as a 6-5 team. Likely had more bought through other sources. I think it should be measuring stick. Otherwise, quit complaining that June Jones doesn't have reason for concerns about lack of attendance. Its not June Jones' job to sell tickets but it is the fans job to support the program. Bowl game attendance and the size of a school's traveling party is in fact an important of getting BCS bids and quality bowls.

we are "disadvantaged" in this regard and will always be compared to the large public schools, but the 20 year self imposed post death penalty "penalty" has compounded the problem. Can only hope that a higher percentage of future students take an interest in athletics.

8,000 allotment and 3,500 returned suggests that they sold 4,500 tickets.

This will be SMU's 14th bowl (depending on how far back we go). I have been to 4 and plan to make this the 5th. So I will have personally seen a 1/3 of SMU's bowl games after this game.

Discussing details with family and friends this weekend so don't know the number of tickets I will be buying.

And Iam excited to be playing a team from an AQ conference. THey may be 6-6 but have a great tradition and come from a good conference. I am looking forward to this game.

This will just reinforce that in fact there is a legitimate basis for June Jones to consider other schools-I actually am on June Jones' side of that part of the debate. Sorry you guys that want to offer excuse after excuse for our fanbase are incredible naive. You want to be Big Time nobody cares about the excuses-they want to know why the hell do so few fans support the program. Why are season ticket sales so low? Why do so few season ticket holders even bother to show up for games they already paid for. Why have season ticket sales gone down in the last two years even when SMU has enjoyed some success. Why is there no plan to fix the problem.

Nobody is making excuses, just simply explaining the reason: We have been dead for 25 years compete with every pro sport in Dallas, in wich when we start going up Rangers, Mavericks go to championships. TCU is undefeated streaks and winning the Rose Bowl. Dallas doesnt identify with us. The fact of the matter is, you dont go out and criticize the people who show up. Season tickets and sales will go south after the debacle. People will think SMU is dismantling and any little interest that might be popping up just died immediately those reports came out. The Big East news got drowned out with JJ's ASU thing. Bevo Corp from what I heard put the debacle out over the Big East news (cause they are [deleted]). There is no short term plan to fix it. The school can give money to alums to go and buy all the tickets to get the attendance number, and try to hand out free tickets, but nobody will show up. You have to give a reason to watch. Going 10-2 winning conference championship and doing that 2, 3 times is what you need to do to compete with Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks.

Ok please look at the year difference. In 1998, the bowl system was brand new, things were exciting in college times. TCU going to a bowl after being recently kicked out of the SWC. Obviously they still had their fan base. We had DP, kicked out to WAC then to CUSA, then after decads past we just got to our first bowl game. Huge difference.
