COLE BEASLEY: A big opportunity

Postby PonyPride » Tue May 22, 2012 1:51 am

Since he started playing football, former SMU receiver Cole Beasley has been told he's too small. But all the way through his college career, he has been among the most productive players on the field. Now in camp with the Dallas Cowboys, Beasley is hoping to prove his doubters wrong again. Beasley visited with PonyFans.com to break down his chances and discuss what he has to do to make the Dallas roster.

Enjoy!

Beasley is a little like SMU over the last 20 years -- maybe a little undersized, but easy to root for.

Go Cole!

Not sure if the Cowboys will give him a legitimate chance to compete. I have a feeling they'll try to keep him on the PS and then lose him to a team, similar to what happened with Amendola, who then ended up being a key part of someone else's team.

That wouldn't be a big surprise. I think he'll be productive enough that he'll stay through camp, but no matter how much he does, a lot of teams will be leery of putting an undrafted free agent that size on the roster. I could see him on the practice squad, but I hope some team (probably Pittsburgh or Washington) gives him a chance on the 53-man roster.

Apparently cole was a priority free agent for the Cowboys. The article isn't about him, but he was mentioned.

"A number of you may recall OCC's piece on the UDFA's signing bonuses. A quick scan of the page will show that Benford did not receive any signing bonus. Essentially, it appears that he wasn't a priority free agent. Saalim Hakim, Cole Beasley, and Donavon Kemp each received bonuses, also at the receiver position.
So what makes Benford so special, if the Cowboys didn't even offer him a signing bonus?"

"As a true freshman in 2008, he ... showed exceptional hands, catching almost every pass within reach."

That is not my recollection, in fact I recall the opposite, but congratulations to him for making himself into a legitimate receiver. It would have been interesting to see the senior-year numbers he would have put up if he hadn't had the injury midyear.

He had decent hands his freshman year but not phenomenol. Potential td catch that was dropped against Tulsa was tough but seems like his hands were great starting his sophomore season.

Lots of 53 man predictions are saying it is too risky to place CB on the practice squad and risk having another team pick him up. It is still very early, but both analysts on BTB have him making the 53 man.

Nope. Cowboys haven't had a mini-camp since last report, and training camp doesn't start for a couple more weeks.
