Well I think I just broke the story on Hawaii Scout-they apparently haven't heard

I suggested he's perfect since he has Interim Head Coaching experience

Is this real news or did someone make it up? I haven't seen it announced on any "news" site.

Can someone fill me in on the type of defense(s) he uses? Attacking? Bend but don't break? 4-3? 3-4? What's his recruiting like?

3-4 - makes good use of the available talent.

Recruiting is tough to judge. Simply put, June Jones and his staff expended very little effort doing the "right things" to land good players. Eventually, the lack of recruiting caused last year's debacle. After June left, Mason tried to do the "right things;" however, why didn't he insist on doing the "right things" when he was the assistant HC? My best guess: Mason would be a good (but not great) recruiter in a good staff. Unlike June, he seems like a likable guy.

Congrats, Coach! Your defense was the only consistent thing during the JJ tenure. Get yourself a couple of Samoans and you'll be set.

A 3-4 with a lot of breaking and some bending. He never seemed to find a single OLB that was an above average pass rusher. Always seemed to have some good inside guys though.

Hurry up teams are Mason's kryptonite. His defenses always have communication/fatigue issues against them.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

I forgot about his 2010 where he had 9 sacks. So we had one good guy for one year then.
