Late offers

Postby PonyPride » Fri Jan 23, 2015 11:50 am

Quarterback Ben Hicks, who already is enrolled at SMU for the spring semester, and his high school coach both confirmed this week that just before he enrolled at SMU, Hicks received late offers from Florida and Michigan. Hicks said it was extremely flattering to be offered by Florida, as a big SEC school, and that he was even more flattered by the offer from Michigan, largely because he was pursued by new UM head coach Jim Harbaugh, who is "a heck of a coach, and knows a few things about quarterbacks."

Hicks is our starter in 2015. Book it.

Amazed not to have seen a response to this yet from our resident idiot...or maybe the Fiesta worked enough today to get a real job.

When Chad Morris describes Hicks as a guy "He'll be talking about forever" bc he gave Morris and his vision a chance when most top Qbs wouldn't - you know the kids special, talent and otherwise.

I mean why didn't Baylor offer him before the Tech flip - didn't they originally go after President over Hicks who was down the street. Just curious, was he a late bloomer his senior year that we stole just in time?

you can't take more than 1-2 QBs-and if you followed the rather sordid Stidham story you'd see that his flip has been in the works for a long time. Quite frankly, both Michigan and Florida were pretty desperate for last minute QB help too. Coaching changes often require a new brand of QB. I kind of doubt Hicks would have gotten an offer if Harbaugh had 15 months to find a QB. QBs are usually the first position off the board so there is not much left in January. Note Hicks himself had been committed to UH for a very long time

Baylor was looking for big-time athleticism at QB.

Regardless of the circumstances two of the most high profile programs in the country thought enough of Hicks to offer him. Also, after watching his film its clear that he plays in a very similar system to the one here so hopefully the transition from HS to college won't overwhelm him. Getting him in early and with the opportunity to go through spring ball is tremendous.
