I see Mexmustang and SMU's resident street agent thug are at it again making vague, general, uniformed statements about SMU academic admission obstacles. We got the guy over at Rivals talking about how tough it is to get JUCOs in when we've had about 15 in FB and BB in the last few years in FB and BB most of which were NON-QUALIFIERS out of high school-hell one had a GED. Not one person bothered to point out that NCAA requirements for JUCO transfers is going UP not DOWN from 2.0 GPA to 2.5 GPA. GET THAT? NCAA JUCO REQUIREMENTS ARE GOING UP!!!!!!!!!!! See link for 2.5 GPA for JUCOs
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story ... es-changesNot to mention the big time transfers in both sports who were on academic probation when they transferred to SMU. None of the experts talking about lowering academic standards bother to tell you what they really mean. They mean they want to admit kids making 620s and 650 SATs( 600 points lower than SMU's average), they want kids who take correspondence courses from diploma mills and they want to admit the kids going to multiple schools to manufacture transcripts. I've posted an official statement from the Baylor Board of Govenors showing Baylor retained the exact same rule that SMU has on SAT floor-it is not NCAA minimum on the non-existent NCAA floor. Otherwise, SMU can admit just about anybody else and has for 4 years. See the SMU APR numbers in FB and BB which have fallen off a cliff
Notice not one mentioned recent modifications to residency requirements or banning of diploma mills. None of these guys mentioned that the NCAA also mandated that students must pass 10 of the 16 required core courses prior to the seventh semester of high school in order for him or her to compete in their first year at college. That means students can’t cruise through the first part of their high school career and load up on required courses at the end-likely at a store front diploma mill. The NCAA is the one who has raised core requirements first from 13 then 14 and now 16 and yes one of those core requirements can be a foreign language core credit.
They kept [deleted] about why there are no athlete friendly majors or special rules for admitting athletes when they've been told a thousand times the NCAA does not allow a school to have special rules for athletes. There is barely an SMU Basketball player in years that WASN'T academically marginal. Hell half our Class had to sit out last year.
The fact is that resident street thug can't identify a single player SMU can't get in and a legitimate, unjust reason he wasn't admitted. When he tries to name a kid he is repeatedly proven wrong-or he names a kid with a criminal record, or he names a kid that went to a diploma mill or he names a kid who basically can't read o.r a Euro who signed BUT was later RULED INELIGIBLE by the NCAA.
Mexmustang goes on and on about SMU raising their core entrance requirements without pointing out the NCAA raised its core requirements too. The fact is that the NCAA has addressed in very recent years almost every single area where SMU might possibly be at minimal disadvantage and SMU is right there where we should be on admissions.
You don't need to bottom 5% to win. The Coaches that go for those guys are the ones that fail to get the better prospects who actually belong on campus.
