Although SMU outshot Memphis 28 to 6 and forced the Memphis keeper to make 16 saves, it took goals by Jordan Mann and Duke Hashimoto in the last three minutes to win the game. You could argue this was simply a day in which the ball would not go into the net. However, SMU has been consistent this season in dominating games but not scoring goals. The Ponies desparately need a goal scorer. It does not need to be pretty. Just someone who can consistently put the ball in the back of the net.

Memphis came in looking for a tie, which on the road isn't always a bad thing. Then the SMU defense had a bit of a braincramp and allowed Memphis a point-blank shot on Steve Sandbo, when they converted. After that, Memphis just stood the team picture in front of their goal, hoping to hang on to a 1-0 win. Jordan Mann's tying goal was really good, but Duke Hashimoto's goal was a thing of beauty. Memphis's goalkeeper is huge, but he couldn't catch anything -- you had to figure that eventually something would slip through.
