Postby mustangbill67 » Sun Nov 06, 2005 9:14 pm

Even though Tulsa is the 8th seed, this will be a tough game.

IRVING, Texas - The SMU Mustangs (10-5-1, 8-1-0) will hold the No. 1 seed in the 2005 C-USA Men's Soccer Tournament, played Nov. 9-13 at SMU's Westcott Field.

Eight of the 10 C-USA teams advanced to the league tournament, which will begin Wednesday with first-round matches at Noon, 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. CT. The semifinals are Friday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with the final set for Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. CT. The final will be aired on the CSTV with Don Russell calling play-by-play and Bill McDermott providing color commentary. Conference USA's official website, www.ConferenceUSA.com, will provide updates, box scores, recaps and photos.

SMU will square off with No. 8 seed Tulsa in the Wednesday nightcap at 7:30 p.m. The two teams played to an exciting 3-2 decision that SMU won on Oct. 21. No. 3 seed UAB will kick things off at noon against No. 6 seed Memphis in a rematch of the 2004 C-USA Men's Soccer Championship final. UAB was the third C-USA team to post 10 victories this season with a 10-6-1 overall record and 5-3-1 in conference play.

No. 2 South Carolina (10-6-1, 7-1-1), the only team to knock off the Mustangs during the regular season, will face No. 7 seed Kentucky at 2:30 p.m.. The Wildcats tied Memphis for sixth place with a 3-4-2 conference mark, but the Tigers won the tie-breaker with their 2-1 overtime win against UK on Oct. 21. The 5 p.m. match features No. 4 seed Florida International matching up with No. 5 seed Marshall. Both finished 4-3-2 against C-USA competition, but FIU earned a dominating 7-0 victory in the second conference match of the season on Oct. 2. The Herd has won or tied six of their last eight matches since.

Tulsa and South Carolina are the only teams I am really afraid of playing. And as usual we get Tulsa right out of the chute.
