DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's track and field teams will send five student-athletes in four events to the fourth-annual NCAA Midwest Regional this Friday and Saturday in Austin, Texas. All events will be held on the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium on the University of Texas campus.

Junior Gaelle Niare is the top-seeded SMU athlete, ranking first in the region (and in the nation) in the high jump with a mark of 1.92 meters. Junior Alesha Stegemoller also qualified for the NCAA Regionals with a mark of 1.75 meters. Freshman Christina Mueller will compete in the
discus throw. She posted a qualifying mark of 49.60 meters.

Sophomore Andrea Kvetova is ranked 11th in the nation (sixth in the region) in the javelin with a mark of 52.10 meters. Sophomore Rachael Forish is SMU's lone runner. She is competing in the 5,000-meter run with the 11th-best mark in the region (16:37.06).

The top five finishers in each individual event and the top three teams in each relay automatically qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 7-10 in Sacramento, Calif. Athletes may also earn an at-large berth to the national meet based on their ranking among all regional performances.
