DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's soccer team has added two players to its fall roster. They include freshman Alex Hughes (Shanghai, China) and transfer Ben Shuleva (Dublin, Ohio).

Hughes, a 6-0 goalkeeper, attends Shanghai America School. A four-year starter, Hughes served as team captain in 2005. His high school team won the China Cup championship in 2004 and was runner-up in 2005.

A 5-11 junior defender, Shuleva transfers to SMU via St. John's University where he started all 21 games for the 13th-ranked Red Storm in 2005, scoring one goal on five shots. As a freshman, he appeared in 13 games with one start. Shuleva attended Dublin Coffman High School and was the leading scorer for both his high school and club team (Ohio Thunder) from 2002-04. He led the Thunder to five state titles.

Did St. John's drop soccer? I thought he would have to sit out a year!

Unlike football and basketball, I believe you are allowed at least one transfer in soccer without sitting out.
