Mustangs Add Three Student-Athletes to Fall Men's Soccer Squad
Two Transfers, One Freshman To Begin Play This Fall

June 5, 2006

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU head men's soccer coach Schellas Hyndman announced the addition of three more student-athletes to the Mustang squad for this coming season. They include transfers Scott Geppert (Coppell, Texas), Ben Hemkens (Eureka, Mo.), and freshman Seth Tamminga (Aurora, Colo.).

A 6-0 forward, Geppert comes to SMU via Brown University where he earned the 2005 Ivy league Rookie of the Year honor. He led the Bears in scoring last season with four goals and six assists, including three game-winning goals. A third-team freshman All-America selection by College Soccer News, Geppert saw action in all 18 games for Brown, starting in 14. Named the 2004 Texas State Player of the Year his senior season at Coppell High School, Geppert earned All-America status and was named MVP of the 2004 Texas state tournament. He scored 54 goals during his career at Coppell. Geppert played club soccer for the Dallas Comets '87 blue team, which won the 2003 Texas Premier League championship. His parents are Tom and Cindy Geppert.

Hemkens, a 5-11 defender, transfers to SMU from Vanderbilt University where he saw action in 15 games his freshman season. He posted one assist in 2005. A 2004 graduate of Chaminade College Prep in Eureka, Mo., Hemkens led his high school team to its sixth straight Metro Catholic Championship and finished runner-up in the district. Team MVP and team captain as a senior, Hemkens was a member of the national championship of the Scott Gallagher soccer club team which also won the Region II title and state crown in 1999, 2000, 2002-04. Ben's parents are Michael and Nancy Hemkens.

A 6-2 defender, Tamminga earned first team All-State honors (Class 5A) while serving as team captain in his senior season at Regis Jesuit in Aurora, Colo. Tamminga was a member of the Real Colorado club team which placed second at the 2005 national championships and captured the Region IV title. His parents are Phil and Shelley Tamminga.

Looks like a high level of competition for the starting lineup. With all the new additions, I wonder if we have some people leaving from last years team.

Well, they did lose Israel Jones and Jeff Hartwell off of last year's team, so that was two spots.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!

Well, as I recall Jeff Harwell was the only player we lost during the season. He left after the 16th game. In any event, we ended the season with 21 players on the roster, four of whom were seniors. We have added a total of 13 new players. That is a current roster of 30 players. I cannot imagine Schellas carrying anymore than 24 when the season starts.
