Women's soccer opens season with LSU, No. 4 North Carolina

SMU to Face LSU, #4 North Carolina in Season-Opening Weekend, Aug 25 and Aug. 27

Mustangs to Play LSU at UT-Dallas (Stadium Field) and UNC at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco

DALLAS (SMU) - After a 5-0 victory over SFA in a preseason exhibition game, the SMU women's soccer team nears its season-opening weekend vs. LSU on Friday, Aug. 25 and vs. fourth-ranked North Carolina Sunday, Aug. 27. In order to give the new sod at Westcott Field a chance to grow, the Mustangs' first two home games will be played at other venues. On Aug. 25, SMU-LSU will play at UT-Dallas on the Stadium Field. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. On Aug. 27, SMU-North Carolina will play at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.

SMU will resume play at Westcott Field on Friday, Sept. 8 with a contest against UTSA at 2:00 p.m.

"LSU is due to be one of the fastest improving teams around," states SMU head coach John Cossaboon. "With a good group of freshmen, this is a team on the rise that is on the edge of becoming one of the elite teams in the nation."

If Coach Coss really said that, he's the greatest diplomat the world has ever known. After watching last night's game, I feel very safe saying that LSU is not an elite team in Louisiana (which is not exactly a soccer hotbed), much less in the nation.

I'd like to nominate Coach Coss for a position in the United Nations.
