Top-Ranked Notre Dame Highlights Upcoming Mustang Women's Soccer Weekend Games

UTSA to Face SMU Friday Afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

DALLAS (SMU) - After two road games last week, the SMU women's soccer team returns to the friendly confines of Westcott Field for two games this coming weekend, beginning with first-year program UTSA Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, SMU (2-1-1) serves as host to top-ranked Notre Dame (4-0) beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's game vs. the Irish will be taped by CSTV for broadcast on Tuesday evening, Sept.
12, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for youth. SMU faculty, students, and staff are admitted free with a current and valid SMU ID. For ticket information, please call 214-768-4263.

Notre Dame, led by eighth-year head coach Randy Waldrum, are unbeaten so far this season with wins over Santa Clara, USC, Ole Miss, and Iowa State. The Irish return eight starters from last year's 22-3 squad with won the Big East Conference regular season and tournament titles. Notre Dame advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2005 NCAA Tournament, falling to Portland. Top scorer for the Irish is freshman forward Michele Weissenhofer (Naperville, Ill.) with two goals and six assists.

Junior forward Amanda Cinalli (Maple Heights, Ohio) totals four goals and one assist. In goal is junior Lauren Karas who hails from Flower Mound, Texas. She sports a GAA of 0.67, allowing only two goals to date. Notre Dame travels to Ft. Worth to take on TCU Friday night before facing SMU Sunday afternoon.

UTSA comes to Westcott Field with a record of 2-3 in its first year of women's soccer. Last weekend, UTSA dropped a 4-0 decision at UTEP and shut out Grambling State, 6-0. Freshman midfielder Chelsea Zimmerman (Mansfield, Texas) leads the team in scoring with three goals and one assist. Junior Rachel Francis has played a majority of the minutes this season (431 minutes) with a GAA of 2.72, allowing 13 goals.

SMU pony tales:
** Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Gunter has shut out opponents in three of the four games SMU has played this season. The Lancaster, Pa., native sports a GAA of 0.77.

** SMU returns to the friendly confines of Westcott Field this coming weekend. Phase one of Westcott Field enhancement concluded over the summer with field replacement including a new irrigation system and new playing surface, which was expanded to 75x120.
