Posted: Sun Sep 17, 2006 1:28 pmSMU beat Dayton to win the University of New Mexico tournament. Scott Geppert scored on a header off a corner kick for the winning goal early in the second half. Dayton appeared to apply tremendous offensive pressure throughout the game out shooting the Mustangs 18 to 14 with 5 shouts on goal compared to the Ponies 2. Dayton also had a shot off the post in the second half. Game appeared to be very physical with 32 fouls called and a yellow card for each side. All in all, a good weekend playing on the road in Albuquerque. Expect Smu to fall from number one as Clemson has beaten both Maryland and North Carolina on successive weekends.
