Ackersons Lead Mustangs To Win
Sisters Pace Mustang Win In Lubbock

Sept. 19, 2006

LUBBOCK, Texas (SMU) - Even playing without senior standout Laura Cross, the SMU women's golf team posted a win in its season's inaugural event, winning the Jeannine McHaney on The Rawls Course. SMU shot a team 878 for three rounds on the par-72 course, edging TCU and San Francisco by three shots.

SMU was led by senior Jennifer Ackerson, whose final round 68 vaulted her into a second-place tie at 5-under 211. Sister Kate Ackerson also had a strong showing for SMU, taking sixth at 1-over 217. Junior Lacey Jones just missed a top-10 finish, taking 13th at 5-over 221. In her varsity debut, Sarah Dodson, sister of former SMU All-American Will Dodson, tied for 36th, shooting a 77-74-80-231. Ashley Deatherage rounded out the SMU squad, tying for 59th at 237. Senior Kristina Rothengatter played in the event as an individual and tied for 25th at 10-over 226.

"This is a good win for us," said Head Coach Todd Selders. "Everyone did a great job. Even though it was a different line-up, everyone came together, played well and helped each other out. That said, a final-round 68 will really help your team score! It's a great way to start the new season."

SMU will return to the links on Sat., Sept. 30, when the `Stangs travel to the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
