Men's soccer tops national polls for the second straight week
SMU faces Kentucky at Saturday night at Westcott Field
Oct. 3, 2006

DALLAS (SMU) - For the second straight week, the SMU men's soccer team holds the top spot this week in all four national polls (adidas/NSCAA, Soccer Times.com Coaches poll, Soccer America poll and College Soccer News.com poll).

After playing the last five games on the road, the Mustangs (11-0-1, 1-0 C-USA) get back to Westcott Field for games against two formidable Conference USA opponents in Kentucky (Saturday, Oct. 7 - 7:00 p.m.) and Tulsa (Wednesday, Oct. 11 - 7:00 p.m.).

In this week's national stats, SMU is ranked fifth in scoring offense, fourth
in team goals-against-average, third in shutout percentage, first in W-L-T percentage, and seventh in save percentage. Individually, senior goalkeeper Matt Wideman is fourth in the nation in goals-against-average and 10th in save percentage.

Pony Tales...
** Wideman's four consecutive Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors set a league record.
** SMU has outscored its opponents, 33-5, this season, including allowing only one first-half opponent goal in 12 games (540 minutes of play).
** SMU now sports an all-time Conference USA regular-season record of 9-1. Since being affiliated with conference play (starting in 1997), the Mustangs have won eight regular-season titles (out of nine years) and five conference tournament titles (out of nine).
** SMU totals eight shutout victories (out of 10) - the most ever recorded by an SMU team is 14, which most recently occurred in 2001. The fewest goals allowed by SMU in a single season is nine, set in 1982.
** SMU head coach Schellas Hyndman needs two more wins to eclipse the 350-win mark at SMU.
** The combined records of the SMU soccer teams (men's and women's) to date are 20-2-2 (.875 winning percentage).
