Men's soccer No. 1 in national polls for fourth straight week

SMU battles No. 16 South Carolina Wednesday evening at Westcott Field

DALLAS (SMU) - For the fourth straight week, the SMU men's soccer team sits atop the four national polls with a record of 13-0-2. SMU is ranked No.1 in the adidas/NSCAA poll, Soccer Times.com poll, Soccer America.com poll, and the College Soccer News.com poll.

The Mustangs host #16 South Carolina (10-3-0, 3-2 C-USA) Wednesday evening at Westcott Field. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. with CSTV in town to tape the game for broadcast on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 7:00 p.m.

Pony Tales...
** SMU head coach Schellas Hyndman recorded his 350th win at SMU last Wednesday night vs. Tulsa. He needs two more wins to eclipse the 450-win mark in his career.
** Senior midfielder Chase Wileman leads the team in assists with eight, far surpassing his career total of five assists coming into the 2006 season. The Grand Prairie, Texas, native is ranked 21st in the nation in assists per game.
** Sophomore forward Scott Geppert (Coppell, Texas) is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow (Wednesday) to repair a tore ACL in his left knee. Geppert (five goals, two assists) injured his knee early on vs. Kentucky on Oct. 7. He will miss the remainder of the 2006 season.
** In this week's national stats, SMU is ranked first in won-lost-tied percentage, second in scoring offense, third in shutout percentage, fourth in team goals-against-average and sixth in save percentage. Individually, senior goalkeeper Matt Wideman is fifth in the nation in goals-against-average and eighth in save percentage. Sophomore midfielder Jeff Harwell (Dallas, Texas) is 17th in the nation in assists per game.
