The men's club soccer team won the Region IV championship over the weekend with a 3-0 defeat of LSU. The win gives the squad an automatic bid to the national tourney @ Arizona State Univ. in late November.

The team won the 1st round pool with a 0-0 tie against NHCC out of Houston. A red card and two other yellows kept the Mustangs a man down for 53 minutes and without a defensive captain.
They then beat La. Tech 5-0 and advanced to the next round.

In the night match the squad knocked off previously unbeaten UL-Lafayette (9-0) with a dominant 4-0 outcome. The win against LSU in the championship match completed the Louisiana sweep.

The Mustangs now head off to ASU with an undefeated record of 7-0-5. Currently the Mustang defense is tops in the region, only allowing 2 goals all year long.

For people who just want to have fun and play soccer.

For pride, for fun...

The biggest reason is because SMU is the only D-1 soccer program in the state and there are a ton of quality players from around here. Some kids just don't want to give up college for athletics and club sports are a nice mix. The club plays solid squads like UNT ('05 final four) Texas A&M ('04 national champs) Texas ('02 runner-up) with little to no financial backing from the school and still finds a way to compete.
