SMU Advances to Second-Round Game on Sunday
Nov. 10, 2006

College Station, Texas - The SMU women's soccer team advances to the second round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament after a 2-0 victory over McNeese State Friday afternoon at the Aggie Soccer Stadium in College Station, Texas. Win the win, SMU improves to 17-4-1 while McNeese State closes out its season with a 10-7-2 record.

SMU got on the scoreboard early (3:32 mark) when senior forward Olivia O'Rear recorded her 13th goal of the season with the assist credited to freshman Kim Peabody. The Mustangs got an insurance goal at the 81:46 mark when senior Susanne Collins collected her first goal of the season with a shot in the box off a Marisa Schieda centering pass.

The Mustangs dominated the shot count, 18-5, taking four corner kicks and did not allow a single Cowgirl corner kick.

O'Rear now moves into sixth on SMU's all-time career list for goals scored with 39. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Gunter records her 11th shutout of the season. As a team, SMU totals 13 shutouts for the season, tying a program record for shutouts in a single season which has occurred twice (1987, 1999) since the program's inception in 1986.

SMU will play the winner of Friday's Grambling State-Texas A&M contest. Sunday's second-round game is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.

2, but it has been 3 in the last 4 years. The ladies lost to West Virginia two years ago in the opening round.

You can't win it all unless you can beat the Aggies. Better luck next year. Great season and thanks.
