Kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. at Westcott Field

DALLAS (SMU) - The top-ranked SMU men's soccer team (17-1-4) returns to action Wednesday night to host an NCAA second-round Tournament game vs. UC-Santa Barbara (13-7-0) at Westcott Field. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 13. SMU students, faculty and staff tickets are $5.00 with the presentation of a current SMU ID.

As the No. 3 seed in this year's NCAA Tournament, the Mustangs are making their 13th consecutive NCAA appearance (22nd appearance under Schellas Hyndman after clinching the Conference USA automatic berth as the 2006 tournament champions on Nov. 5.

UCSB is making its fifth straight NCAA appearance after claiming the Big West Conference title earlier this month. The Gauchos defeated San Diego State, 2-1, this past Saturday in NCAA first-round play in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Wednesday marks only the second meeting between SMU and UCSB. In their lone meeting, the Mustangs fell to the Gauchos by the score of 1-0 on Sept. 27, 1996, as part of the SMU Puma Classic here in Dallas.

** SMU is 2-0-4 in overtime games this season and sports a 27-16-33 record in OT games since 1984 (.583 winning percentage). SMU's six OT games are the second-most record in the program's history - the most is seven which took place in 2003 and 1988.

** To date, the Mustangs have outscored their opponents, 27-4, in the first half of play and 27-7 in the second half of play for a total of 56-11.

** SMU totals 14 shutout victories (out of 17 wins) which ties the program mark for shutouts in a season (1990, 2001).
** Under the guidance of SMU head coach Schellas Hyndman, SMU has competed in the NCAA Tournament in 22 seasons (out of 23) - including the last 12 straight Tournaments. The Mustangs have reached the College Cup semifinals twice (2000, 2005) and the NCAA quarterfinals nine times.
** The SMU men's soccer all-time record (1975-present) currently stands at 472-122-50 (.772).
** Sophomore midfielder Bruno Guarda and senior defender Jay Needham are on the 15-player semifinal list for the Hermann Trophy. The list will be pared down to three players on Nov. 27.
** A familiar face returns to Westcott Field Wednesday night. UCSB's goalkeeper coach is former Mustang goalkeeper Erick Foss (2001-03).
