DALLAS (SMU) - SMU sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Gunter (Lancaster, Pa.) earned 2006 NSCAA All-America second-team honors, in a recent announcement by the NSCAA. Gunter is the sixth Mustang women's soccer player and first since 1997 to garner All-America honors.

Previous Mustangs to earn All-America honors were Lisa Cole (first team in 1990), Kara Lee (first team in 1993, second team in 1992), Danielle Garrett (first team in 1995), Courtney Linex (third team in 1995), and Marci Miller (third team in 1997).

A 2006 NSCAA All-Central first-team selection, Gunter was named the 2006 Conference USA Defender of the Year and garnered first-team All-Conference USA honors. She posted 11 shutouts and a goals-against-average of 1.01 during the 2006 season as the Mustangs turned in a record of 17-4-1 and shared league regular-season title honors with UCF. SMU made its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and reached the second round of the tournament.
