Women's Soccer Coach Opening

Postby Peruna88 » Mon Dec 25, 2006 12:55 pm

Surfing http://www.smu.edu last night and found this opening for the Women's Soccer Head Coach position. What's the story here? I guess we can say that Cossaboon's year-end meeting with the big man didn't go as well as Phil's did.

This is rather bizarre and I wonder if it is a mistake. John Cassoboom is still shown as the head coach on the SMU athletics page and there is no news announcement that he has left. With his record, I cannot believe he would be fired. If the job announcement is correct, maybe he took another job and there has been no news release.

It's true, but I can't recall what PonyPride told me the reason was. Pride, are you back in town yet?

What job? As of a few days ago Shannon Stiles was still listed as the women soccer coach at Gonzaga. There is no news either on the SMU or Gonzaga end. This all appears rather strange but there is probably a rational explanation. :?

Schools generally don't announce when a coach leaves, unless a replacement has been named. My understanding is that Coach Cossaboon has, in fact, left for Gonzaga. I am not aware of the reasons behind the decision.

Hopefully Orsini can find a top coach and recruiter to fill this position very quickly. Although we have to compete with the Big 12 as well as national women's soccer powers for players, this job should be very attractive considering the high reputation of the program and the talent in the Dallas area. There is not much time left before national signing day in February.

The guy is a total and absolute JERK... ask the players. I'm certain he did not fit the overall image Orsini has in mind for S.M.U. athletics.

Do not know that much about Ed Puskarich except that he is currently Director of Coaching for one of the large local youth soccer clubs. I would imagine that Schellas will be called upon to advise Orsini in this selection.

I think it was a combinaton of things. Rumor is that he did not like all of the responsiblities of being a head coach (mainly the beurocractic aspects) plus I think there was a lot of tension between the girls and him. Some of his actions and with that reactions during the season may have put him at odds with Orsini. So it might have been better to move on than to deal with everything. Hopefully the replacement can lead us to a CUSA tourney win and farther into the NCAAs
