SMU love on a .... Redskins message board?

Postby Red+BlueDude » Fri Jan 26, 2007 2:49 pm

So I'm reading this Washington Redskins version of PonyFans.com, and there's a question on there about which athlete is the biggest star in Washington. Most of the answers rotate between Clinton Portis, Jason Campbell, Gilbert Arenas, Alexander Ovechkin and a couple of guys who play for the Nationals.

Then I came across this post, from "PonyFan":

JAY NEEDHAM!

That's right, the third-round draft choice of DC United. Dude's one of the most solid defenders I've ever seen, and he could be a 10-time all-star and 99 percent of DC still won't know who the hell he is, because he's the least flashy player I've ever seen.

Plus, I've known him for four years, and he's a damn good guy.

OK, call it a tie: Ovechkin and Needham

Nice to see SMU fandom spreading nationwide. Good stuff, PonyFan.

Needham is a stud, but he's no Ovechkin.

Of course, Ovechkin is no Sean Taylor...

I don't know -- Ovechkin is great (all-star), and Taylor is headed back to the Pro Bowl again. I'd gladly take either of them here.

And I'd love to see the great Jay Needham playing for FC Dallas.

Lately Semin has been coming on for the Capitals, but AO is still great. But the two of them are pretty fun to watch. Now if we only had a couple of defensemen. On a sad note, Chris Simon of the Isles tried to pick a fight with Donald Brashear on Sunday and big Donald just skated away. That fight would have been a classic.
