SMU defeats ULL and PVAMU

March 31, 2007

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team advanced to 14-4 on the season with two wins today over Louisiana-Lafayette and Prairie View A&M. SMU defeated ULL, 5-2, and PVAMU, 6-0.

"They girls came out and played well today," said head coach Lauren Longbotham. "I was really impressed with our doubles play. Our goal today was to work on footwork and focus and we did a really good job on both of those today."

The Mustangs began their morning by winning the doubles point against ULL. Monica Neveklovska and Kristen Ried demanded a, 8-2, win over Clemence Remy and Laura Martelli at the No. 3 spot. The score evened out as Jennifer Chay and Pavi Francis were unable to overturn Angela Dangond and Myrthe Molenveld at No. 2 as they fell, 8-4. Natalia Bubien and Claire Rietsch powered through to clinch the doubles point as they took the, 9-7 decision over Tammy Day and Chanell Meijer at No. 1.

In singles action, Rietsch quickly took care of Remmy at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-4 and Francis notched another point for SMU as she topped Meijer, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4. Chay clinched the point for the Mustangs with a 6-0, 6-4, win over Molenveld at the No. 2 spot. Reid was unable to get past Dangond as she fell, 6-2, 5-7, 8-4 (10-4) and Bubien was unable to shake off Day at the No. 1 spot as she fell, 7-6 (8-6), 6-0, 12-10. Georgiana Marta concluded the match with a 7-5, 6-4, win over Martelli at No. 5.
