Soccer America Magazine has ranked SMU 5th in its Men's Preseason rankings behind UCLA, Wake forest, Duke and UC Santa Barbara. The Ponies play UC Santa Barbara September 14 in Albuquerque and play number 6th ranked Virginia in Dallas on September 7. We also play St. Louis in an early non-conference game. A very tough schedule that will show us very quickly what we have this season.

I am impressed. To be the best, you must play the best.

Go Mustangs!

BTW, how are the improvements to Westcott Field coming along?

Coach H always seems to give his team tough challenges prior to conference play. Those games help get the team ready for the NCAA's. Hopefully, we have a few more skilled big uglies this year to protect some of our skill players. After our assassins went down, we had some bad luck in the NCAA tourney.

I'll be in Colorado that week in September so I'm planning on driving down to Albuquerque to catch the SMU/UCSB match. Good luck in all your other contests in 2007.

Go Gauchos

We're better than Duke. Because they're Duke.
We should be no lower than fourth (in the preseason, that is — No. 1 and holding the trophy at the end of the year).
Go PONIES!

The soccer writers have ACC love big time.

The ACC and California have some great programs — no question about it. But SMU and New Mexico have had great programs for a while, now (SMU for far longer) and have had to scratch and claw for rankings. A couple of years ago, New Mexico might well have been the best team in the country, and didn't get above 4 or 5.
