Rigamonti wins 800m freestyle 8) , San Juan Cisneros and Newton still to compete

BANGKOK, Thailand (SMU)-- Former Mustang swimmer and three-time NCAA champion Flavia Rigamonti has added another notch to her belt as she won the 800m freestyle at the 2007 World University Games, setting a new games record and a new Swiss record in the process.

Rigamonti completed the race in 8:25.59, nearly nine and a half seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Previously, Rigamonti won that event at the 2005 European SC Championships, and came in fourth in the 800m at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. She was a three-time NCAA champion in the 1650m free (2002-03, 2005) and took the crown twice in the 500m free (2002-03). Rigamonti is scheduled to compete in the 1500m freestyle Monday, August 13.

Current swimmer Angela San Juan Cisneros is also competing at the games. San Juan Cisneros swam the 100m butterfly and finished 17th with a time of 1:01.31. She will also compete in the 50m butterfly, scheduled for Monday, August 13.

Former Mustang Jonathon Newton will compete in the 50m butterfly on Monday, August 13 and the 50m freestyle Tuesday, August 14.
