April 8, 2009

DALLAS (SMU)-Mustang swimmer Therese Svendsen was named Freshman of the Year as announced by Conference USA on Wedensday, April 8 for her exceptional performances swimming in the backstroke events and medley relays.

Svendsen claimed All-America honors as a member of SMU's 200 and 400-yard Medley Relay teams at the NCAA Championship. The Malmo, Sweden, native also competed in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke at the NCAA Championship.

At the C-USA meet, Svendsen was league champion in the 200-yard backstroke as she touched first in a season-best time of 1:55.51. She also took second in the 100-yard back stroke at the league meet. In her two relay events at the C-USA Championship, Svendsen helped the Mustangs set new meet and pool records in each event as SMU went on to claim its fourth consecutive C-USA league title and the team's 13th straight conference title overall.

"13th straight conference title overall." That is just strange to read on our boards, knowing it refers to us.
