Lesniak Named ITA Southwest Region Rookie Of The Year
No. 59 Lesniak to Compete in NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

DALLAS (SMU)-Freshman Marta Lesniak was named the Southwest Region's Rookie of the Year for NCAA Division I tennis as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Lesniak had a standout rookie season to lead the No. 23 Mustangs to their first Conference USA title and a berth into the NCAA Team Championships in five years.

The 2009 C-USA Freshman of the Year and an All-Conference USA first-team pick, Lesniak finished her freshman campaign with a 14-1 record at the No. 1 spot for the Mustangs. Ranked No. 59 in the latest ITA singles rankings, the native of Poland will represent C-USA at the NCAA Women's Singles Championship next week by virtue of being the league's highest ranked player.

Lesniak has won her last nine consecutive matches and took down three nationally ranked opponents this spring, including a thrilling three-set win over then-No. 4 Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas in her debut match as a Mustang. Lesniak will also compete with teammate Aleksandra Malyarchikova as a doubles tandem at the NCAAs.
