Four Mustang Golfers Named NGCA All-American Scholars

Ackerson, Bennett, Hooper, Presti Honored

July 1, 2009

CORAL SPRINGS, Florida (NGCA/SMU) - Mustang women's golfers Kate Ackerson, Alexis Bennett, Jennifer Hooper and Kalie Presti have been named National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars, the organization announced today. The foursome was among 410 women's collegiate golfers at the Division I, II & III levels recognized with this prestigious honor.

The honor was the fourth such career accolade for Ackerson, who graduated as a four-time All-C-USA golfer, a four-time C-USA Academic Medal winner and a three-time Academic All-District selection. Bennett, Hooper and Presti were each named to the C-USA Honor Roll this season, while Hooper and Presti added C-USA Academic Medals.

The NCAA also honored the SMU women's golf team earlier this spring with a public recognition award for the team's multi-year Academic Progress Rate score. This marked the third straight season the Mustang women's golf program was so honored. These awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with their APRs.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
