SMU Ballroom Dancing

Postby ponyte » Thu Sep 03, 2009 1:15 pm

I was not aware of this until I ran across it by accident. Apparently, there is ballroom dancing available at SMU and there is competition.

http://people.smu.edu/ballroom/

After only one year and three competitions the club has 21 first place medals, 2 second place medals, and 2 5th place medals. A link to the wards:

There also are classes it appears on Saturday (and it looks like they accept alumni as well).

Well SMU does have a very excellent dance department. I wonder if there are some ringers.

Judging from the level of awards at various amateur levels, I would say either there are some ringers or there are some dancers that have been doing ballroom for some time. One year and winning multiple awards at various levels is pretty good from what I know of the sport.

I believe it is offically called BALLroom dancing.

And I agree to an extent that if a judge is involved, then it really is a beauty contest. However, there is athleticism involved and the best part is the chance that a guy can dance with a hot babe half his age and not get arrested or called a pervert.

I have a co-worker who has been informed by his daughter that she wants to go to the SMU Meadows school of dance. He is taking donations.

For the record, the dance department is a goldmine of hot and relatively available women at SMU. Given that their male counterparts are well indifferent to dating girls (NTTAWWT), and given the physical conditioning and elasticity of the women there, I would place it high on the list of places to get to know for guys at SMU.

I will mention that to my co-worker. I am sure that will make him forget about the money aspect.

the trouble is that there is a huge time commitment involved...

not to mention you have to be supportive by going to the shows...sigh

cheerleaders show athleticism, but contrary to what my government teacher in high school argued, it is not a sport.

im not sure id call it athleticism as much as coordination maybe.

Based on that, then NASCAR, Indy car, drag racing and other motor 'sports' aren't really sports. Unless sitting on one's butt and turning left in a car is considered a sport.

We can split the difference and call them all competitions since there isn't really any athleticism involved.

i couldnt agree more. driving a car is not a sport. it takes endurance but that doesn't make it a sport
