Stewart Earns Back-To-Back C-USA Player Of The Week Honors
SMU Libero First Volleyball Player To Repeat As Player Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (SMU) - Sidney Stewart became the first-ever SMU volleyball player to earn back-to-back Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week awards after leading the Mustangs to a 3-0 week and the crown in the 2009 Doubletree Classic hosted by SMU in Moody Coliseum.

The sophomore from Houston was named the Most Valuable Libero of the tournament after recording 53 digs in the Mustangs wins over Texas State, Syracuse and William and Mary.

She also played the final three sets of the tournament on the front row, recording her first career block and first multi-kill match, scoring seven against William and Mary. Stewart added an assist and two aces in 12 sets this weekend.

Stewart is only the second volleyball player to win multiple honors in the same season, a feat Candice Davis did in both 2006 and 2007. Davis is also the only player to earn three honors in the same season (2006). The award is the third overall for the Mustangs this season, and with one more award, SMU would tie the school record of four in a season.

The Mustangs will return to the court Friday, when they travel to El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP in their conference opener at 7 p.m. CDT.
