Mustangs Set To Play Last Road Game Of Season On Sunday

Oct. 16, 2009

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Memphis scored two second half goals to defeat SMU 2-0 Friday night at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Mustangs fall to 4-9-1 and 2-3-1 in C-USA, while the Tigers improve to 10-5-0 and 5-2-0 within the league.

Amanda Olszewski started the scoring in the 67th minute for Memphis with an assist by Ashley Berra. Memphis received a second goal in the 79th minute from Kelsey Bakker, and Berra earned her second assist of the night on the play.

SMU earned 12 corners to Memphis' six. Memphis had the slight edge in shots, leading 13 to 10. Courtney Webb made five saves for SMU. Kaitlyn Eidson led the Mustangs with four shots offensively.

The Mustangs play their last road game of the regular season on Sunday against UAB at 1 p.m. The Mustangs return home to Westcott Field on October 23 as they take on UCF at 7 p.m.

So do we still have a chance for the Conf USA tournament?

Not impossible but not very likely. We are now 10th and only play So. Miss which is ranked lower.
I would say one more loss and we will not be in the tourney. Sad situation just getting worse.

Wins over Tulsa, UAB, and Southern Miss would put the Mustangs in the tournament, and those three teams are very beatable by the Mustangs.

I wasn't expecting a win last night, but Mustangs looked like they were outplaying Memphis through the first three-fourths of the game. Ponies had an advantage in shots and a large advantage in corner kicks at the half.

I would agree with wins over Tulsa and So. Miss. but do not think we have a good chance at beating UAB.
