SMU Track & Field Finishes In Sixth After Day One At C-USA Championships

HOUSTON (SMU) – The SMU track and field team is in sixth place after six events at the Conference USA Championships. The field led the way on Friday evening as Ayla Gill and Lauren Kuhner each had top-five finishes in the weight throw, earning 13 of the team’s 21 points thus far.

On the track side, the Mustang distance medley team finished in second place, just .6 seconds behind first place Tulsa. Sara Sjokvist, Alex Pegram, Mary Alenbratt and Kristine Eikrem-Engeset combined to finish the race in 11.37.95 minutes. The time broke the previous C-USA meet record, which had been 11:40.37, done in 2007 by Tulsa.

The C-USA Championships will wrap up tomorrow evening on the campus of the University of Houston. Full results will be made available on smumustangs.com.
