Slam-dunk for C-USA Coach of the Year, right?

He and his staff have done a sensational job this year.

Have to agree!! He's done in only two years what Erwin can only dream about after twice that long.

This is going to be an exciting tourney season!!

I can't speak for him, but I think that's unfair. At least on the women's side, RP and I have agreed that our chronic under-performance has been unacceptable. It's been a long few years.

We actually should come close to dominating the C-USA All-Conference teams and sweeping the individual awards.

It's not fair comparing the two programs. SMU is the only Division I men's soccer program in the state. Erwin has to compete with A&M, Tech, Texas, Baylor, TCU etc. for recruits. In terms of RPI, Mustangs are behind only A&M and UT in the state.

yes it is fair to compare the programs...Brent gets awesome recruits. He is an amazing recruiter. He just doesn't know what to do with them when they get on the field. Check out the ratings of our recruiting classes if you have any doubt. On top of that, Brent has had four years - get that???- and yet we look to be out of the dance yet again.

This year's freshman class has been better than his others, but to suggest he has had great recruits is a little generous.

As for men's awards, these two should be gimmes:

Coach of the Year: Tim McClements
Freshman of the Year: Juan Castillo

As for Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards, it's tough to say, since we only get to see the other teams once.

No, it is not fair. The team has progressed from 9th place to 7th to 6th to 4th and a first round win in the tournament this year. If not for the torn ACL's, this team likely registers wins over Houston and Rice which puts them in 2nd place. Give it up, august/pattymelt... Ashley Gunter isn't coming back.

The men's soccer team staff did a great job this year. They recruited one of the best classes in the country and then managed to get them to play together to build a winning season.
TMc- coach of the year-CUSA, only if they would have voted him worst coach of the year-CUSA when he trashed the nationally prominent program that SH left him.
IMO anything less than quarter finals in the 'big tourney' will be a failure. So let the be-atching begin. :P

GO PONIES!!!

You can not claim to be supportive of the program "as long as we win" when you want to see our coach named worst coach ... for ANY reason. Any claims that you have no ax to grind are moot after that.

As for the postseason, not making the quarters won't be a failure. It would be a disappointing end to a terrific season, to be sure, but no season that includes a 15-1 record and a title in a strong conference can be called a failure, no matter how much you lobby for it.
