Sidney Stewart Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas (SMU/C-USA) --- SMU junior Sidney Stewart collected her league-best fourth Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honor, the league announced today. The libero averaged an impressive 6.0 digs per set in the Mustangs' five-set victories over Rice and Houston this past week.
Stewart, who is SMU's all-time digs leader with 1,580 during her three-year career, collected a match-high 33 digs against the Cougars on Friday night. The junior libero followed with a team-high 27 digs in Sunday's five-match contest against Rice.
The honor is Stewart's sixth career C-USA Player of the Week award, which is the most of any player in SMU history. So far this season, Stewart has averaged a team-best 4.71 digs per set and is second on the team with 70 total assists.
The Mustangs will finish second in the league standings with one match to play at Tulsa on Saturday afternoon. In the first meeting between the teams, SMU battled the first-place Golden Hurricane to five sets at Moody Coliseum.
