Well played. On to the next round.

Looked to me like SMU was playing in a much more organized fashion than W&M tonight - didn't seem that W&M could put together more than 2 passes at a time, if that, until the second half. There was lots more 1-1 with them, and it almost worked towards the end of the game. SMU should have won this game with 3 or even as many as 5, but kept hooking them just wide, and had way too many open looks at goal.

That said, it was nice to come away with a W and move on to next week. But we can't play like that against UNC next weekend - gotta put every close opportunity in the net.
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.

Yes, SMU had many chances on net tonight, but the wind was ridiculous. There were gusts of 20-25 mph winds tonight and the team was playing against it in the second half. One of our best chances was Castillo on a break, but as soon as he fired it toward the far corner, the wind picked up and it looked like the ball just hit a wall. Solid chances for the team and pretty good control over the ball on the night.

I was especially impressed by the defense. With Diego deAlmeda out, they had to move Cruz inside and drop Nelson back to the defense, and that group was really impressive. Very few tough shots got through to Hill tonight. Those guys on defense were really throwing their bodies in front of shots, like hockey players. Getting that timing and chemistry together is tough to do on short notice. The defense was the star(s) of the game.

yeah the wind was quite a factor in this game. Some of Hill's second half kickoffs just hit a wall of wind and started going backwards before they hit the ground.

Glad I attended the final home game of the season. BEAT UNC!

As I said, before, whoever won this game was the team I was going to root for the rest of the way and am happy it was the Ponies. Now let's take out the Tarholes and move on to Final Four. UNC has had to go to penalty kicks in every game so far, so they are beatable. We need a great effort to win this game. Except for South Carolina, all of the higher seeded teams won this weekend. So, UNC at home should be a favorite.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

When we last made the semis, back in 2005, we won @ UNC in the quarterfinals in overtime. :)
