Powell And Oliver Named To AVCA All-Midwest Region Teams

LEXINGTON, Ky. (SMU) --- SMU juniors Dana Powell and Jessica Oliver were named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region team. Powell earned first team honors for the second consecutive season and Oliver garnered honorable mention.

Powell, an outside hitter from Tulsa, Okla., led the Mustangs this season with 396 kills and is second on the team with 429 digs. Powell is a three-time C-USA selection, which is the most in program history, after earning second team honors last season and being named to the all-freshman team in 2008. The junior was also named to C-USA's All-Academic team. With this year's selection, Powell becomes the first Mustang in program history to earn multiple AVCA All-Region selections.

Oliver, a right side hitter from Plano, Texas, ranks third on the team in each of the categories of kills (311), blocks (114) and hitting percentage (.232). The junior posted a single-game season high 24 kills in a win over UCF earlier this season. In her last nine matches of the season, Oliver notched at least 10 kills.

The Mustangs finished second in Conference USA this season and tallied a program-high 25 wins. SMU returns five starters in 2011, including four All-Conference USA selections.
