DALLAS, Texas (SMU) - The No. 27 SMU Women's Tennis team improved to 2-0 on the young spring season after its 4-0 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday afternoon.

For the second day in a row, the Mustangs snatched the early momentum when they earned doubles point after cruising to victories at all three positions.

The duo of Edyta Cieplucha and Heather Steinbauer were first to finish when they dispatched of Monica Winkel and Claire Clark, 8-2, at No. 2. SMU's No. 3 pair of Shahzoda Hatamova and Ashley Turpin clinched the doubles point for SMU with their 8-1 win over Vivan Polak and Ana Burjaili. Moments later Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova earned their first win of the spring together when they downed Medy Blankvoort and Letha Gaigher, 8-2, at the top doubles line.

Cieplucha was first off the courts again in singles play after she made quick work of Winkel at the No. 2 line, winning 6-1, 6-0. Hatamova earned SMU's third point when Polak retired due to injury in the second set. The sophomore from Uzbeckistan took the first set 6-1 and was leading 1-0 before Polak retired.

Malyarchikova clinched the victory a few minutes later after she claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Gaigher.

"Today was another good effort," said head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner. "We have a lot of quick turnarounds between matches this weekend and I thought they came out ready to play. Since we started a lot later than originally planned, which was frustrating and made the weather less than ideal again, the girls were able to keep their focus and get a win."

The Mustangs return to the courts to close out the weekend against UT-San Antonio on Sunday at 2 p.m.
