DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team defeated conference rival Southern Miss 7-0 on Tuesday at Turpin Tennis Center. With the win, the Mustangs have won three consecutive meets and are now 6-5 on the season.

The teams opted to start with singles due to the threat of inclement weather. Robert Lambeth was first to finish with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over Michael Sims. Gaston Cuadranti was second off the courts after defeating Jan Burmeister 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot. Shortly after, Robert Sajovich downed Paulo Alvarado 6-4, 6-1. David Costa picked up a win in the No. 1 spot as he beat Julien Roussel 1-6, 7-5, 10-3. The Mustangs completed a sweep of singles action with Mischa Nowicki's 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Jovan Zeljkovic. SMU also picked up the point in the No. 6 singles spot as Southern Miss had only five players due to illness.

In doubles play, Adham el-Effendi and Sajovich paired up to defeat Burmeister and Roussel 8-6, while Andrew Peterson and Costa fell to Zeljkovic and Alvarado 8-6. The Mustangs earned the deciding doubles point as the Golden Eagles had to forfeit the No. 3 spot with only five men.

SMU hosts Abilene Christian and Xavier at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, on Thursday at Turpin Tennis Center.
