Tennis (W) - No. 9 Marta Lesniak in NCAA Singles Wednesday!

Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Tue May 24, 2011 5:52 pm

Don't forget - Marta Lesniak will be in action Wednesday, May 25 in first round NCAA Singles Championship action.

Lesniak is facing Baylor's Nina Secerbegovic (No. 49) at 2pm Central time. Hopefully there will be a stream.

Good luck, Marta!

The live video of the Singles Championship is on the same web site as the team competition:

They are playing now - Lesniak is on stadium court 4.

Not looking good. Lesniak dropped the first set 6-4 and is down 2-0 in the second.

Lesniak just failed to capitalize on three break points (two at deuce) and is now serving down 3-0 in the second...

That break would have been huge!

There we go - a love service game gets it to 3-1.

Lesniak just held to get the second set to 4-2 (including a fortuitous net cord with the advantage).

It looks like Secerbegovic is starting to get flustered with some of the line calls - she just doubled to go down 30-0 with the serve too.

Come on Marta!

Finally! Lesniak converts her fourth break point of the game to get it to 4-3 in the second!

Another deuce game of course - Secerbegovic holds to get it to 5-4.

It looked like Lesniak had the break but there was some major disagreement on a line call. What a shame if it was a bad call!

Lesniak falls 6-4, 6-4.

What a great season though. It's too bad she is out in the first round, but it should certainly be some great experience for next year!

I didn't see the first set unfortunately, but the second set was ridiculously competitive. Every single game went to deuce that I can remember, and very few were finished on the first ad. I can only imagine how many points were played today - especially if the first set was similar.

How great was that to see Lesniak fight back from 4-1 down in the second. If the questionable call in game 9 went SMU's way Lesniak would have been serving for the set at 5-4.

Still, a great match and a great season for Lesniak. Thanks for keeping SMU athletics exciting deep into May!
