Fjortoft Named To Third Straight C-USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas (SMU) - Senior Silje Fjortoft was named to the Conference USA Track & Field All-Academic Team for the third straight year, conference officials announced Wednesday.

The Orsta, Norway native has achieved a 3.84 GPA during her four years at SMU while majoring in applied physiology and sport management with a minor in German. In addition to her third All-Academic Team honor, Fjortoft also earned three C-USA Academic Medals and was a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.

A distance runner for the Mustangs, Fjortoft won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the C-USA Outdoor Championships twice during her career and was the silver medalist this year. She qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries three times, advancing to the NCAA Championships in 2010.

Fjortoft holds the SMU record in the outdoor 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:55.23 set as a sophomore in 2009. She is second all-time in the outdoor 1,500 and indoor 5,000, and is third in SMU history in the indoor mile.
