DALLAS (SMU) - Junior Ayla Gill was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field Team, officials for the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Gill earned second team honors, achieving a 3.81 GPA in business administration with a minor in advertising.

The Auckland, New Zealand native won the hammer throw competition in four of seven events during the outdoor season, and took the bronze medal at the Conference USA Championships. Gill recorded the longest throw of the season in C-USA and fourth longest in SMU history with a mark of 61.70 meters to win the TCU Invitational.

Gill advanced to the NCAA West Preliminaries for the first time in her career, ranked 17th in the NCAA entering the event, but came up short of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. In addition to earning Academic All-District honors, she has also earned two C-USA Academic Medals and was on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll during her previous two years.
