Don't forget Klara Bodinson in the 3000 meter steeplechase preliminaries which should be starting soon (originally scheduled for 7:30).

So close...

Klara Bodinson did not qualify for the finals. She ran in the first heat and posted a time of 10:10.20 which was 7th in her heat.

The top 6 from each heat advanced, so she only missed out by .9 seconds.

(The next two fastest times also advanced, but the second heat was considerably faster - Bodinson was close to 5 full seconds behind 8th place in the second heat).

Still great experience and only a sophomore. Congratulations on qualifying for the NCAA Championships!

The final high jump results are showing Leks in 16th and Egarter tied for 20th.

There is one jumper from Boston U who qualified high enough she didn't have to attempt the first two jumps, but then she missed all three attempts at 1.80m. I assumed she would rank higher than the jumpers who had to clear the first two heights, but I'm certainly no track/field expert.

So - for now let's just take the higher places for SMU and say we finished 16th and 20th!

Where did you get all this? SMUMustangs.com has nothing about this.
Kind of a big deal, isn't it?

The NCAA Championships web site has live streaming and live results.

It really is a shame the school web site has absolutely nothing on this - they haven't even sent out a tweet about Simone du Toit finishing FOURTH!!!

All of the other schools involved are posting their results as the lead story on their athletics home page - and some of them even have splashes for big results.

There really is no excuse considering nothing else is going on at the moment - and claiming we have a small athletic department isn't valid either - Northwestern Freaking State had a splash with their discus result the night of the competition...

If I recall correctly a top 16 finish makes you an All-American.

The athletics web site finally posted a short article today about the NCAA track and field championships.

[Editorial comment withheld]

They did mention du Toit did earn All-American honors in the discus!

Congratulations to Simone, and best wishes in the shot put competition Saturday morning!

First mark for du Toit is 15.97m which would not be good enough to make the finals.

du Toit's first throw only good enough for 15th best overall - top 9 advance to the finals.

Second flight's second attempts now underway.

Huge third attempt for du Toit! 16.46m!!!

Currently 8th overall - hopefully it will hold up through the rest of the second flight's third attempts...
