The live score web site hasn't updated in quite a while. It doesn't look like there is any weather in the Des Moines area or anything so who knows...

Anyway, Simone's first throw should be comfortable for her to advance to the finals.

Simone du Toit finished fourth with a best throw of 56.83m.

Not bad at all!

Congratulations and good luck in the shot put.

The next events of interest:

- Lisa Egarter and Viktoria Leks in the high jump Thursday at 5:30
- Klara Bodinson in the 3000 meter steeplechase preliminaries Thursday at 7:30
- Simone du Toit in the shot put Saturday morning at 11:00

SMU is fourth overall currently! (since the only event complete is the discus...)

Events were delayed today because of rain, so the high jump and 3000 meter steeplechase prelims might start later than advertised.

Big day at the championships for SMU today! Go Ponies!

One note on Simone du Toit's fantastic result in the discus competition yesterday since the athletics department apparently isn't covering our participation in the national championships...

Assuming the record book on the web site is fully updated with all of this season's competitions, Simone's throw of 56.83m is the second longest in school history (behind her throw of 57.35m in 2009).

Congratulations again...

Leks cleared 1.72m on her second attempt as well!

10 jumpers cleared 1.72m on their first attempt.

On to 1.76m - only 2 of 24 jumpers eliminated at 1.72m.

Lisa Egarter failed to clear 1.76m.

Still a great accomplishment to qualify for the NCAA Championships as a freshman and certainly some really good experience for the next three years!

FYI - only 3 of the 24 finalists are freshmen this year.

Leks still has not attempted 1.76m yet.

1.80m is next - still 20 jumpers left! Amazing...

Only 6 jumpers with no misses though.

Oh well, Viktoria Leks failed to clear 1.80m.

We should know the final positions for Leks and Egarter in a few minutes...

1.80m appears to be the big height to clear - it narrowed the field down to 13 jumpers...

Looks like Leks officially finishes 17th and Egarter finishes 21st.

Congratulations to both of them for representing SMU at the NCAA Championships!
