Dixon Promoted To Associate Head Coach

July 6, 2011

DALLAS (SMU) - Long-time assistant Cristine Dixon has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the SMU Volleyball team, Head Coach Lisa Seifert announced today.

"I felt that after 11 years of loyal service to SMU Volleyball, Cristine had more than earned a promotion," said Seifert. "She is involved in every aspect of the program and I trust and value her opinion. She a tremendous asset to this program."

Dixon has been an assistant coach for Seifert and the Mustangs for the past 11 years, but the connection between Seifert and Dixon began long before either worked on the Hilltop.

Before Seifert started the SMU volleyball program, which completed its first season of competition in 1996, she was an assistant at Texas Tech. While a high school athlete in Los Angeles, Calif., Dixon, the former Cristine Martin, was recruited by Seifert to play collegiate volleyball at Texas Tech. Dixon played under Seifert's guidance for two seasons before the coach left to start a program at SMU. The outside hitter finished her career at Texas Tech after the 1996 season, and graduated in May 1997. Three years later, Dixon joined Seifert's staff at SMU as an assistant coach.

During her tenure on the Hilltop, Dixon has coached two honorable mention All-Americans, 24 All-Conference selections and 68 Academic All-Conference honorees. In 2010, the Mustangs set a school record with 25 wins with just six losses, and had a 17-3 mark in Conference USA.
