I didn't see it, but the men drew with Memphis Sunday afternoon. Memphis scored first and Castillo equalised in the 40th minute, which was in the second period as they went with the hockey-style three period format because of the heat.

Two exhibitions - two goals for Castillo.

Still puzzling to show any of your hand to another conference team, but obviously Memphis did the same as well. As long as nobody gets hurt.

Season opener Saturday night against William and Mary at Westcott!

I thought it very strange that they had an exhibition game with a conference foe. Would like to know how that came about.....

My understanding is that they (Memphis) were in town anyway, for a friendly/scrimmage with the FC Dallas reserves. The SMU and Memphis coaches are friends, and figured an extra round of practice/scrimmage was a good idea.

Neither team showed anything very creative or aggressive, and the whole game was just strange — in an effort to survive the sauna-like heat, the game was played in three 30-minute periods (instead of two 45s) to force the players to go inside a second time to cool off, etc.

Juan Castillo's goal was outstanding. He jumped on a ball outside the 18-yard box, spun around a defender and as the Memphis goalie charged him, calmly tucked it under the keeper into the lower left corner. His composure when shooting (and when people are trying to clobber him) is impressive, especially for such a young player.
