Women's Soccer - SMU vs. Oklahoma

Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Sun Aug 28, 2011 9:28 am

Big test for the Mustangs Sunday evening in Norman. Oklahoma is coming off a close 1-0 loss to Oklahoma State Friday night.

Other teams media seem to jump on the "nine starters returning" bit, which is kind of funny since it's really five starters returning and maybe one or two more depending on who Erwin decided to start up front in the games you are comparing.

NORMAN, Okla. -- On Sunday, Aug. 28, Oklahoma welcomes SMU to Norman for the first meeting in the series since 2004. Funny -- no mention of us beating them in the spring.

I bet we see a very different OU team tonight.

Underway.

SMU in white shirts, white shorts, and white socks. Oklahoma in red shirts, white shorts, and red socks.

SMU keepers in the sharp new all-black keeper kits!

Great save by Webb right off the bat. Some disorganization at the back leaves somebody unmarked in the box and they fire a low hard shot right near the post and Webb makes a nice diving save.

Nice first chance for the Ponies. Baum sends a nice ball into the box for Larson who is making a run down the left side but the defense breaks it up before the shot.

Nice move by Redman, who sends a ball into the box for Burgardt, who finds Lewis totally open but the shot goes just high.

SMU got off to a bit of a slow start - but we are definitely playing with the Sooners now. Another nice chance developed by Redman, Larson, and Clarke.

A Sooner breaks through the back line after a nice play by a midfielder but Webb timed coming off her line perfectly and scoops up the ball just inside the 18.

Scary moment after a turnover but the defense recovers. 30 minutes gone, still 0-0.

Gaines almost gets on the end of a Smith throw-in but the OU keeper just beats her to it.

Just because Clarke is 5'3" doesn't means other teams have free license to just throw her down. This is getting old.
