First shot on goal of the game and it's from SMU - Juan Castillo at 73:25.

Still 0-0.

SMU appears to be turning up the pressure. Three corners in the past three minutes.

UConn 1, SMU 0 Final.

I can only imagine how intense this one was. We certainly showed we can play with them - we were right there the full 90 minutes. It's a shame we ended up on the wrong end of this one. Looking forward to the recap and details on the UConn goal.

Shots: SMU 5, UConn 5
Shots on goal: SMU 1, UConn 2
Corners: SMU 5, UConn 1
Fouls: SMU 14, UConn 13 !!!
Yellow Cards: SMU 2, UConn 2

UConn is very strong this year and the fact that the game was basically a draw doesn't necessarily mean it will be a bad year for SMU. I actually see this as a positive sign.

Agreed. Haven't seen a lot from the team, since it's hard to measure much in exhibition games and four of the team's five regular-season games so far have been away from home ... but I was told that despite a record that is bruised by the Murderer's Row schedule, this year's team is "much better than last year's team." Losing to William & Mary was disappointing, but the Ponies didn't play well that day and the game still was decided by a fluke gold that deflected off a defender when the goalie already was diving to one side of the goal. They lost to N.C. State on another unlucky goal despite dominating the game — play those games over again and there's a good chance this team is 4-1. This non-conference schedule is nasty, but the theory is that the Ponies will be far better-prepared against top teams in the Conference USA portion of the schedule and the NCAA Tournament.
