Mustangs Fall To Baylor, 7-5, In Exhibition
Renick Townsend earns MVP honors over fences

Sept. 9, 2011

WACO, Texas (SMU) - The SMU equestrian team was defeated by Baylor, 7-5, Friday afternoon in an exhibition match. The meet was closely contested as the Mustangs outscored the Bears with a raw score of 869-866, but fell in points. Renick Townsend earned MVP honors over fences with a score of 84.

"This exhibition was a really good chance to see where we are and what we need to do before the season begins," head coach Haley Schoolfield said. "This was great opportunity to see how our freshmen handle pressure and to give our upperclassmen extra experience. We are extremely proud of our performance and are excited to begin our season in a few weeks against TCU."

In addition to Townsend, Lauren Hogan also picked up a point over fences for the Mustangs.

Lucy Blundon, Greer Hindle and Alessandra Shultz each earned a point on the flat, with Blundon earning a team-best 73 in the event.

SMU opens the season against cross-town rival TCU on Sept. 23 at BuckBranch Farm.

Great effort today. I'm still impressed by the three points on the flat. It's also nice to outpoint a good program like Baylor (again!).

Hopefully there will be a box score at some point so we can see all of the riders used today.
