DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KAITLYN EIDSON, SMU
Senior, D, Katy, Texas
Eidson played a key role in SMU's 2-0-0 start in Conference USA play. On Friday, she scored the game-winner against No. 19 UCF, the C-USA preseason favorite and defending regular-season champion, with a header in the 63rd minute. On top of that, she was crucial in anchoring a backline that shutout a potent UCF attack, which outshot SMU 13-5. The 1-0 win ended the Knights' six-match unbeaten streak. The win was also SMU's first win over a ranked opponent since Nov. 15, 2002, when the team knocked off No. 11 Texas 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Eidson continued her solid played in central defense, as SMU held Southern Miss scoreless through just over 80 minutes on Sunday. After giving up a goal in the 81st minute, Eidson put the game out of reach with her second headed goal of the weekend in the 86th minute. The Mustang backline held USM to only three shots on the day. This is Eidson's first C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor, but second weekly honor of her career as she was named Offensive Player of the Week in 2010.

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU senior central defender Kaitlyn Eidson earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for her performances this past weekend. The Mustangs shutout No. 19 UCF 1-0 on Friday night, and followed that up by defeating Southern Miss 3-1 on Sunday.

On Friday, she scored the game-winner against No. 19 UCF, the C-USA preseason favorite and defending regular-season champion, by redirecting a shot off of a free kick in the 63rd minute. After giving up a goal in the 81st minute, Eidson put the game out of reach with a header goal off of a corner kick in the 86th minute. The Mustang backline held USM to only three shots on the day. This is Eidson's first C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor, but second weekly honor of her career as she was named Offensive Player of the Week in 2010.

Eidson also named to the CollegeSoccer360 primetime performers list for week 6 - quite a nice honor:

http://www.collegesoccer360.com/awards_2011_F/

Selection for the CS360 weekly awards is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):

- Must have been playing in a game involving a top-50 team from the CS360 Composite National Rankings (or in a game involving a preseason conference favorite/leader), or performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason qualification/participation.

- In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent and situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments.

- Exhibited strong leadership and/or involved in clutch performances, such as gamewinning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, momentum-shifting play, all-around performance, team spirit, etc.

- Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).

- Bonus consideration is given for key performances away from team's home field.
