Women's Soccer - SMU vs. UAB

Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Sat Oct 08, 2011 9:44 pm

SMU is back in action Sunday afternoon at Alabama-Birmingham. Start time is 2pm. UAB is 3-8-1 overall and 0-3-1 in C-USA and coming off a 3-0 loss to Tulsa at home Friday night.

The conference race is really starting to get interesting:

1. 4-0-1 13 Memphis
1. 4-0-1 13 Colorado College
3. 4-1-0 12 UTEP
4. 3-1-1 10 SMU
5. 3-2-0 9 Rice
6. 2-1-2 8 UCF
7. 2-2-1 7 Tulsa
8. 1-3-0 3 ECU
9. 1-4-0 3 Houston
10. 0-3-2 2 Marshall
11. 0-3-1 1 UAB
12. 0-4-1 1 Southern Miss

Obviously, UAB is near the bottom of the conference and this is a game SMU just has to win.

Other important Sunday action in C-USA features Tulsa at Memphis, Rice at UTEP, Houston at Colorado College, and UCF at East Carolina.

The Mustangs appear to have taken a positive outlook on the draw at Memphis which is probably the right mindset. Hopefully, SMU will be able to take care of business Sunday.

Halftime. SMU leading 2-1.

Shots: SMU 4, UAB 1
Shots on goal: SMU 3, UAB 1
Corners: SMU 2, UAB 1
Fouls: SMU 5, UAB 6

The UAB goal was some sloppy defense by the Mustangs. A lot of scrambling trying to clear the ball and a UAB player ended up unmarked around 5 yards out. Obviously from the stats that was their only shot of the half too.

After the video came up - it looked like SMU was going with a back four of Bass, Smith, Eidson, and Hartweck with Cox playing just in front of them - but who knows how were were lined up earlier in the half when we scored our goals.

12 minutes left. Both teams have had some great chances in the second half.

Still 2-1 SMU.
